Camp Overview

The GPXC Mount Hood Summer Training Camp is designed to bring athletes together before the start of the cross country season. Over five days, athletes will train on some of the Northwest's most scenic trails while building friendships, developing team culture, and preparing for the season ahead.

Athletes will participate in daily runs, recovery activities, team meals, and group experiences in and around Government Camp, Oregon.

This camp is open to returning athletes and incoming freshmen planning to participate in Gonzaga Prep Cross Country.

Lodging

The team will stay together in a private vacation home located in Government Camp, Oregon.

The home provides a comfortable team environment with multiple bedrooms, common gathering areas, a full kitchen, dining space, laundry facilities, and outdoor space for athletes and coaches during the camp.

Sleeping Arrangements

Athletes will stay together within the home. Room assignments and sleeping arrangements will be organized and supervised by the Coach.

The home includes a variety of sleeping options including bedrooms, bunk beds, pull-out sofas, and common sleeping areas.

Athletes should plan on bringing:

  • Sleeping bag

  • Pillow

  • Twin air mattress, sleeping pad, or other preferred sleeping setup (recommended)

While beds are available within the home, bringing an air mattress or sleeping pad provides additional flexibility and helps maximize available sleeping space for the group.

About the Area

The camp will be based in Government Camp, Oregon, on the south side of Mt. Hood.

Training runs and activities will take place throughout the surrounding mountain community and trail system. The area provides access to scenic forests, alpine views, mountain lakes, and a variety of trails that make Mt. Hood one of the Pacific Northwest's most popular outdoor destinations.

Local landmarks include Timberline Lodge, Trillium Lake, Mirror Lake, and portions of the Pacific Crest Trail.

Yes. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks will be provided throughout camp. Athletes should notify the coach of any food allergies or dietary restrictions during registration.

How much spending money should athletes bring?

Spending money is optional. Athletes may wish to bring money for souvenirs, snacks, or optional activities during free time. Most athletes will not need more than $20–$100 depending on personal preference.

What will a typical day look like?

Daily schedules will vary, but athletes can expect organized training sessions, recovery time, team meals, and group activities throughout the day.

Will athletes be supervised?

Yes. Athletes will be supervised throughout the duration of camp.

What happens if an athlete needs medication?

Any medications should be brought in their original container. Parents should provide relevant information during registration so appropriate arrangements can be made.

What is the camp's electronics policy?

To encourage team bonding and help athletes get the most out of the camp experience, phones and personal electronic devices will be
collected by the coach each day and made available during designated communication periods.

Athletes will have daily opportunities to check in with parents, respond to messages, and use their devices. Outside of those designated times,
athletes will be expected to participate fully in camp activities without the distraction of phones or social media.

If a parent needs to reach an athlete outside of those times, they may contact the coach directly.

What happens if an athlete needs medication?

Any medications should be brought in their original container. Parents should provide relevant information during registration so appropriate arrangements can be made.
